A. Homeostasis Definition: Homeostasis is the maintenance of a relatively constant internal environment within a narrow range despite changes in the external environment. Explanation: Homeostasis refers to the body's ability to maintain stable internal conditions such as temperature, pH, blood glucose levels, and water balance. This stability is crucial for optimal cellular function and overall survival. The body achieves homeostasis through complex feedback mechanisms involving multiple organ systems working together. Without homeostasis, enzymes wouldn't function properly, cells would be damaged, and vital processes would fail. This concept explains why our bodies work so hard to keep things balanced even when external conditions change dramatically. Think of it as: Homeostasis is like a thermostat in a house that constantly monitors and adjusts the temperature to keep it at a comfortable level, regardless of whether it's freezing outside or scorching hot.
