About O/L Mathematics: O/L Mathematics covers number systems, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics across Grade 10 and 11.
- Always consider transaction costs when calculating profit or loss. Ignoring them gives an inaccurate picture
- Dividend is paid on the number of shares you own on the record date. It is not affected by market price
- Capital gain is realized only when you sell the shares
- The par value is used only for dividend calculations; it is not the market price
Must know
- Read the problem carefully: Identify what is given (market price, par value, dividend rate, number of shares, brokerage rate, other costs) and what is asked (total cost, net proceeds, dividend, yield, total return)
- Write down all steps: Show your calculations clearly. Even if you make a small arithmetic error, you may get partial marks for correct method
- Check units: Ensure all amounts are in the same currency (usually Rupees). If percentages are given, convert them to decimals or fractions correctly
- Memorize key formulas: Especially total cost, net proceeds, dividend per share, dividend yield, and total return percentage
